New Orleans, LA - July 6, 2010 - Today, New Orleans City Council President Arnie Fielkow will welcome the Baseball Wives of Major League Baseball (MLB) players that have traveled to New Orleans to raise awareness and funds in support of the Gulf region.
The trip is led by Megan Thomas, wife of Chicago White Sox great Frank Thomas and Co-Founder of the Baseball Wives Charitable Foundation. Megan, along with other MLB wives, also traveled to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and is committed to helping restore this region, which she calls "rich in culture." Other wives attending are: Jamie Buehrle (Mark - Chicago White Sox), Jill Borkowski (Dave - Houston Astros), Elizabeth Condrey (Clay - Minnesota Twins), Crystal Durbin (Chad - Philadelphia Phillies), Julianne Gamel (Mat - Milwaukee Brewers), Jessica Maholm (Paul - Pittsburgh Pirates), Cass Relaford (Desi - Texas Rangers), Erin Romero (J.C. - Philadelphia Phillies) and Jamie Zaun (Gregg - Milwaukee Brewers).
Fielkow, a sports enthusiast and former President of the Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs, is honored to welcome these dedicated women to City Hall. The women, who visited Grand Isle and had the opportunity to meet with city officials and parish residents there, are looking forward to discussing their observations of the wetlands and what they can do to help.
